Just in from CNet News, according to a bill approved by a House of Representatives panel on Thursday, political loggers would be largely immunized from hundreds of pages of confusing federal regulations dealing with election laws.

CNet News reports that the FEC is currently under court order to finalize rules to extend a controversial 2002 campaign finance law to the Internet. Unless Congress acts, the final regulations could cover everything from regulating hyperlinks to politicians' Web sites to forcing disclosure of affiliations with campaigns.

"Bloggers should be treated no different from talk radio," said Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald, a California Democrat. "Talk radio hosts have protections under the First Amendment. While I may disagree with their positions on the issues of the day, I will nonetheless fight for their right to speak their mind."
