Saw a post earlier today on SEOmoz where Rand Fishkin had announced WeeWorld’s new web site and invite all those who regularly read his blog to join up for a live chat around 3pm PST. WeeWorld is a place where you can create your own cartoon character and then chat, see existing friends or meet new ones, use your character as mobile phone wallpaper and even create a web space. They also have a shopping section where you can apply the character you create onto things like shirts, mugs, coasters and cards to name a few.
So I thought this might be a bit of fun. Another way to waste some time as opposed to doing “real” work. So I went to create my WeeMee under the name “SearchRank” an hour ahead of time as it does take a few minutes to create and fully customize your WeeMee. I tried to make him look as close as possible to how I really look. This is what I came up with:
When 3pm came I dropped what I was doing and went to meet others at WeeChat. However the site would not allow me to log in. Repeated efforts failed. Dang it! So I rushed to create a new profile under my real name and launched myself into the chat room. The funny thing is that I did not have time to dress my WeeMee so I ended up in there… uumm with no clothes. It was the funniest thing. Here is what others saw:
Those who knew me where like, “Uumm… Hi David. Nice leaf.”
I did quickly throw some clothes on so I would be the only naked one of the bunch. Another guy popped in later wearing no pants. Another funny moment. It is a pretty cool concept. However they do have some bugs to work out such as my not being able to log in with my original account and the fact that you can only have 6 people in a chat room at a time. The chat room is also a bit sluggish and jumping from one room to another is totally random.
Other then that it will be interesting to see what develops of WeeWorld. They claim to have 8 million people registered so far. Community sites seem to be all the rage these days. Just look at what has happened with the MySpace.com phenomena.
