Mixx Adds New Features, Just in Time For Christmas

MixxI'm really starting to like Mixx, a social news site that operates in much the same way Digg does but is so much better in my opinion. Just in time for Christmas, Mixx has added some new features. Features include the option to make groups public, daily email digests, address book importer, the 'on deck' circle, and improvements to the duplicate checker.

Public Groups
Now when you create a group, you can opt to have it accessible to the entire Mixx community. This will allow other Mixxers to find groups and join them. They are also offering for a limited time the ability to move private groups into the public arena.

Email Digests
Mixx now offers the option of receiving a once-a-day update of all activity on Mixx—who Friended you, any comments on your submissions, group activity, and whatever else has been clogging up your in-box.

Address Book Importer
Want an easier way to invite your friends to join you in a group on Mixx? Use their new Address Book Importer, which works with the four largest email providers. Just type in your email address, with the domain name, and Mixx will get them lined up for an invite to your group!

On-Deck
A cool new feature that will let you see the content that is close to crossing into the Popular category. These stories will be nicely lined up under the “Recent” tab. To go along with this, you’ll also be able to see how long ago a particular item became popular.

Duplicates
They've ramped up the duplicate checker to catch more duplicates. This should relieve some work for the duplicate Neighborhood Watch who have been diligently reporting those cases where Mixx's duplicate check was falling down on the job.

And finally not listed in the official blog post, Mixx informed me that they are working to add an edit feature so in case you screw a submission up (as I did today), you have the option of editing yourself.

I'm very glad to be part of this new community as I have pretty much given up on Digg. Sure I digg other people's stuff but I would very much like to see Mixx give Digg a run for their money. If you want to check out my Mixx profile, you can do so here.
