How to Get Bloggers to Mention You Without Paying Them & Other Daily Finds for March 26, 2008

Here are some great and newsworthy posts I came across today including a post describing how to get bloggers to mention you without having to pay for it, a post that weighs the costs in using a professional SEO company compared to hiring an in-house marketer, and finally, Wal-Mart lose an online trademark case (always love any story where Wal-Mart is the loser).

How to Get Bloggers to Mention You Without Paying Them (Link Building Best Practices)
Blogs are a great place to get some publicity and create incoming links to your own website, but how do you get the blogger to mention you? The value is tied to the fact that it isn’t a paid post, so you want your site mentioned on blogs that aren’t charging for posts (or at least one’s that are not strictly in the business of charging for posts). You want recognition that says that the blogger genuinely likes you and your site.

Using a Search Engine Optimization Company vs. Hiring an In-House Expert: The True Dollar Cost (Search Engine Guide)
Scott Buresh writes, "It's a common question that companies who are considering hiring a search engine optimization company often face - is this something that we can do in-house? More importantly, can we do this in-house and get the same results that an expert search engine optimization company would provide?" A post that supports hiring a professional SEO company as opposed to an in-house marketers. I'm all for it!

Wal-Mart Loses Online Trademark Case (WebproNews)
A Conyers, Georgia man has won a legal battle with retail giant Wal-Mart who accused the man of violating its trademark for selling T-shirts and other items that featured the phrases "Wal-ocaust" and "Wal-Qaeda." U.S. District Judge Timothy Batten in Atlanta ruled that Charles Smith may continue to run his Web sites, www.walocasut.com and www.walqaeda.com. Smith also can continue to sell his parody merchandise that criticizes Wal-Mart the judge said. Gotta love any story where Wal-Mart is beaten down.
