I Am Now a Super Mixxer! What Is That?

I love the fairly new social news site, Mixx and find myself spending time there each day, adding stories and voting on others. While viewing my profile today, I see a “Super Mixxer” badge next to my name. Cool, but what does it mean? According to the Mixx FAQ page, “A Super Mixxer is a user on Mixx, who, through a combination of Karma points, high quality, diverse submissions and comments, and being a model Mixxer for at least 30 days, has access to special feature enhancements.”

On the same FAQ page, it says what a Super Mixxer can do – “As of right now, on every page, Super Mixxers will have the option to link a piece of content with any other previously Mixxed story, photo or video with our Related Items feature. But as we roll out more cool toys, Super Mixxers will gain more privileges.”

Speaking with several colleagues at the recent SMX West conference, there were a few that didn’t place much emphasis on Mixx, at least to drive traffic. However, I’m hoping they continue to garner interest and market share and can eventually compete with the likes of Digg and other social news sites. I like them much better than Digg not only because of their functionality and ease of use, but they also seem to be much friendlier to the search marketing industry.

The key is to not abuse the system. Become a valuable member of the community, using the site for its intended purpose and not merely to game the system for traffic and/or links. As Mixx becomes more popular, I believe the rewards of getting in early and building up a good profile will eventually pay off.
