Mixx – Please Limit Story Submissions To One, Maybe Two Categories

MixxSocial news site, Mixx must be getting more popular. I am seeing a lot of spam recently, mostly of the kind where people are submitting stories to multiple categories. Now there may be times where this is justified, however in most of the cases I have seen, it is nothing but spam. I can only assume people are doing this to try to gain additional exposure for their submissions but in the end all it really does is make a lot of noise.

For example, today I came across a video submitted for Virgin Galactic, something related to regular citizens being able to travel to space. It was submitted it to the following categories:

Space, Travel, News, World, Business, Business News, Entertainment, Interests, Tech, Tech News, Design, Gadgets, Science, Science News, Fun, Random & Crazy

Now it belongs is Space for sure, maybe even Travel but all the rest? Give me a break!

Additionally I have feeds set up for the Science and Religion sections of Mixx and see inappropriate stories submitted there all the time. When I visit Mixx to view the story, I often see that it has been submitted to multiple categories.

My first request is for Mixxers to stop doing this. It is not the proper way to gain attention for your stories. However, I also request that Mixx itself to possibly consider limiting the amount of categories users can select when submitting stories to one, maybe two at the most.

What do you think? If you use Mixx, do you like being able to submit to multiple categories and if so, what i the reasoning behind it? Or are you like me and don’t want to see the same story appear again and again in category after category?

  1. It seems like all of these sites are getting filled up with lots of crap. Better filtering would be useful.
