Microsoft on Determining Search Engine Spam From Email Spam & Other Daily Finds for April 4, 2008

Bill Slawski writes, “Are there enough connections between email spam and search engine spam that exploring and understanding how they might be related may be helpful to search engines in fighting search engine spam?” he then explores a patent recently granted to Microsoft that looks into some ways that might help a search engine eliminate spam from the search results it shows by paying more attention to spam in emails that people receive.

Google Tests Middle Of Page One Box Results (Search Engine Land)
Barry Schwartz writes, “Google is testing the placement of one box results within the middle of the search results. We have seen Google test “search refinements” within the middle of the search results, but never really one box results, at least not in this separated form.”
