Is Twitter the Ultimate Time Waster or Great Tool & Other Daily Finds for June 18, 2008
Here are some great and newsworthy posts I came across today including a look at whether twitter is a great tool or an ultimate time waster and David Mihm’s Local Search Ranking Factors – an exploration of 47 criteria with respect to their influence on rankings in the Google and Yahoo Local “Universal” search algorithms.
Twitter: Ultimate Time Waster or Great Tool? (10e20 Blog)
Earlier this month, Chris Winfield asked Twitter users various questions regarding whether the service was a great tool of a time waster. He gathered the responses and used them in a recent presentation at SES Toronto. I was included in that experiment. The post is long but reveals some really great responses from a variety of Twitter users.
Local Search Ranking Factors (David Mihm)
Twenty local search experts were asked to rate the importance of 47 criteria with respect to their influence on rankings in the Google and Yahoo Local “Universal” search algorithms (those that drive the 3-pack, 10-pack, and authoritative onebox search results; NOT the standard organic algorithms). The results make for one very excellent post.

Great question – Twitter is a double edged sword…we believe the benefits vary for each person individually.

I am going to say that it is both. You can use it to waste mass amounts of time, but you could also use it as a great tool. I do not use it personally but a co worker uses it as a professional tool and she seems to be doing just fine as that. She is able to keep her time structured and managed so it does not turn into a waste of time.

Fantastic question, I know people that live by it and others that refuse to go close to it.

The perception of value varies from person to person. I for one do not like twitter but others I know do.
