New Features at Mixx – Nested Comments, Domain Endorsing & More

MixxMixx has announced a variety of new features related to the comment system, communities, fighting spam, awards and has even added domain endorsing. All in all they make Mixx an even better user experience than it already is. Following is a summary of what has been added, updated and improved.

Comments

  • Nested Comments – When you replay to someone’s comment, it will now be nested meaning it will reside under the original comment. This will help following the flow of conversion that takes place. Please note, nesting will only occur on conversation threads going forward.
  • Comment Following – Tired of talking but still want to listen? You already follow comment threads on items you submit and when you participate in the conversation, and now you can choose to follow a comment thread no matter who submits the story—even when you’re not posting your own thoughts. You can also choose to follow these other threads via email, via RSS or on a new page called Your Conversations (found under YourMixx in the red navigation bar), which shows you all the comment threads you’re interested in.
  • Kudos! – See a comment you think is especially insightful, humorous or intelligent? Then give it the Kudos it deserves! Every Mixxer will be given five Kudos per day to hand out—so use them wisely! The comment that gets the most Kudos will get the new Big Kudos badge for the day.
  • Comment Blocking – Now whenever you choose to block a user (which stops them from Following you or sharing with you), their comments are also blocked out. You’ll see a placeholder that they’ve left a comment, but you won’t have to see the actual comment.
  • Comment During Submit – Now while you’re submitting that awesome news item, you can add anote to let your fellow Mixxers know why you think it worthy of their attention!

Mixx Communities

Mixx has added a couple of tweaks to make Communities run more smoothly:

  • It’s now easier to submit content to your Community. While in your Community, clicking on the “Submit a Link” button will, by default, submit it to that Community.
  • The Community auto-import feature has been modified a bit to make sure that your Community is getting the best Mixx has to offer: Now only submissions with five votes or more will be auto-added to your Community.

Fighting Spam Can Now Add To Karma

Mixx loves it when the community helps keep things clean by reporting abuses and spam and would like to encourage more of that. Now you’re going to get an extra a bit o’ Karma when you report spam and they wind up removing what you’ve reported. It’s the old “reward for information leading to an arrest” type thing. With this release, they are also making a few tweaks to the algorithms that determine popularity also with an eye on spam.

Another New Award!

Starting today, as you are surfing around, you might notice another new badge start showing up on your friend’s profiles — The Mixx Picks badge. If one of your submissions is chosen by the Mixx staff to be highlighted in the Mixx Picks blog, then you’ll get a cool new spotlight badge to show off your killer submitting skills!

Domain Endorsement

Last but certainly not least comes my favorite newly added feature – domain endorsement. Mixx is now allowing Super Mixxers to endorse domains – meaning that they think all the content on that domain is worth reading, worth picking up the RSS feed for, and worth visiting on a daily basis. This does not impact the vote count or popularity of the particular story. It just gives you a bit of additional information to make your browsing more efficient.
