Mixx Beginning To Monetize Itself

Slowly but surely, the up and coming social news site Mixx is beginning to monetize itself. And why shouldn’t they? With over 5 million unique visitors to the site in October alone, Mixx has seen steady growth since their debut a little over a year ago.

So the next time you visit Mixx and are not logged in, you will see Google AdSense units appearing in the right sidebars. You will not see AdSense units if you are logged in with the exception of the Health and Tech sections of Mixx where you will still see small units. Mixx has also promised to make an announcement if they plan on adding additional units to other sections of the site in the future.

In their announcement of this on their blog, they seem somewhat apologetic about the ads however I as a Mixx user have no problem with them at all. heck, I may even click on them from time to time to help support Mixx.

Now Mixx has been running AdSense ad units within Mixxer’s communities for some time now in which they are supposed to share profits. Up to this point however, we have yet to see any kind of advertising on Mixx’s regular pages.

Hopefully AdSense does well for them. Even more than that, I hope they begin to find additional ways to incorporate other forms of advertising to not only pay the bills but to turn a profit as I am cheering on this social news site to someday compete with the likes of Digg.

  1. I like Mixx, it is a very friendly website to use. I’m glad to see they are doing well.

  2. “heck, I may even click on them from time to time to help support Mixx.”

You think you are helping Mixx – but overall you are hurting small businesses who advertise on Google Adwords (if you are just clicking to help the publisher but not really interested in the ad).

  3. I’ve never tried Mixx before. I will check it out.
