New Blog / New Site Finally Here!

We began to migrate this blog from Movable Type to WordPress back in September I believe. What should had been an relatively easy switch turned out to be a nightmare. Now, some six months later, we have completed that migration (well almost) and along with a brand new blog design all sitting pretty under the WordPress platform, we have a new site to boot!

It didn’t make sense to develop a new look to the blog itself and not have the SearchRank site match. So after the blog redesign was complete, a matching static web page template was also created to host the the “business” portion of the site.

This was not the only reason why it has taken so long to re-launch this site.

While Movable Type does have an export function in which you can then import all posts and comment into WordPress, we found that each and every post was full of sentences that would just stop and move to the next line. This created quite a mess.

Therefore each and every post (almost 600 of them at the time) had to be hand edited. What we actually did was to “cut and paste” from the old into the new and then utilize the “more” tag as well as add tags to each post.

We still have about 100 posts to sift through but they are posts dated back to 2006 and beyond.

There was also the process of moving all the business site content into the new template. We even found ourselves rewriting some of the content as it had been outdated.

Some of the new features include a CSS drive template with very minimal use of tables, comments on blog posts are now “followed” and the blog template itself has many new features not found on the Movable Type version.

If you find mistakes such as missing graphics, posts that still look a bit “screwy” and the like, please forgive us and know that we are still working to get rid of all the little bugs and things we missed.

For now it is a chapter in my life personally I never want to go through again, that is converting a Movable Type blog into WordPress. Fortunately for us, all our blogs now use WordPress as the platform.

  1. Congrats on converting the blog. It sounds like quite the project. I didn’t get to see the old version of your blog, but I really like the design now. How are you liking wordpress compared to movable type?
