I came across a disturbing report from The Raw Story about National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell’s plans for cyberspace spying that would make the current debate on warrantless wiretaps look like a “walk in the park,” according to an interview published in the New Yorker’s print edition today. The plan would give the government the authority to examine the content of any e-mail, file transfer or Web search.

The results are in for Search Engine Journal’s 2007 Search Blogs Awards. This is SEJ’s third installment of this contest in which they nominated the best of the best in 18 separate categories. I had announced last week that we were nominated as one of the top ten SEO blogs which I think is an honor in and of itself. We didn’t win the number one spot in that category which is justifiable as there were much better SEO sites we were contending with.

Anyone who is into link building knows that Google has declared a war of sorts on paid links, looking to punish both those who buy and sell them. Vanessa Fox has put together an excellent review of the “paid links war” as it unfolded in 2007. With that review, she wanted to learn how the other three major search engines felt about paid links.

It has been some time since we have heard anything regarding Traffic Power, a Nevada based SEO company that was responsible for offering shady marketing practices. Recently, Traffic Power CEO, Matt Marlon, was arrested and jailed, not related to anything regarding search, but accused of a foreclosure scam in Nevada.

One such contest is Search Engine Journal’s Search Blogs Awards of 2007 which aims to define the best blogs in a variety of categories.

Our post, “10 Signs That You May Be a Blog Addict,” published in April of this year made the initial nomination list and now has made its way into the top ten.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t use GMAIL – Google Accidentally Bans Hundreds of Users from Gmail. Barry Schwartz reports on a Google Groups thread where many users have complained that their Gmail accounts were all of a sudden disabled. The problem began late on December 5th. The following day, Gmail Guide replied saying that this was an error on Google’s side and they are fixing it.
