I love WordPress for its ease of use, clean code (if you have the right theme), friendliness with SEO and availability of free plug-ins. However, if you fail to properly secure your WordPress application, it can quickly fall prey to hackers and malicious spammers.
The following infographic discovered at WPTemplate.com highlights some of the most popular security plugins among WordPress users. I can personally vouch for some of these as we utilize them in our WordPress applications. These include WP Security Scan and Login Lockdown. One that is not mentioned but highly recommended is WordPress Firewall which essentially keeps hackers from being able to modify any of the files that make up WordPress. And while many of the others look appealing in what they offer, the only caveat I’d offer is to make sure you only run plug-ins that are essential to your needs. Keep in mind that the more plugins you run, the slower your WordPress site may run.
